The very short synopsis that I am going to give you for Orphan Black is taken from IMDB (a website that I use practically every day of my life): "A streetwise hustler is pulled into a compelling conspiracy after witnessing the suicide of a girl who looks just like her." Without giving anything big away, I can tell you that it's basically about clones. When someone first told me that, I certainly wasn't that interested, but let me tell you that it is about so much more than just clones. There's conspiracy, mystery, humor, gruesomeness, and of course science.
The best and most noteworthy thing about this show is Tatiana Maslany who is OUTSTANDING. Since you know it's a show about clones, it's no secret she has to play more than one character (almost 10 and counting), but she does it so freaking well that I constantly forget she's the same actress. When she's Sarah she's Sarah, when she's playing Allison she's Allison, and so on. Even when she has a character impersonate another character, you can still tell she's acting as the first character (I realize that sounds confusing, but just think about the sentence and I think it makes sense). It's all seriously impressive, guys. I don't know how she hasn't won more awards. I looked up her background and she has not been in a ton before this, but I'm sure after Orphan Black is over (which I hope won't be for quite awhile) I'm sure she'll get picked up real easily for some great project.
I just finished the second (most current) season, and oh boy the finale was just insane--so much to look forward to and learn more about. Sadly, when it comes on in April for the third season, it's on BBC America on Saturday (yes, Saturday) nights. I don't have BBC America, but luckily I have a friend (the friend who most pushed me to watch the show in the first place) who does have BBC America and is totally fine with being lame on Saturday nights for a 10-week period. Did I mention there are only 10 episodes per season? Not enough, because I always want more, but also no excuse for you not to watch it fast. I borrowed the season from the library, but it can also be found on Amazon Prime, and you can get a free month of membership right off the bat! Please check it out, you won't regret it!
And, if you need a little more motivation...
