- Finish Gone With the Wind: Yeah, I started this about a year ago and haven't picked it up since. It has nothing to do with me not liking it, in fact I did like what I've read just as I really love the movie, but it's just SOOOOO long and I'm notorious for not picking up books longer than 600 pages. It's for the simple fact that I could read 2 books in the time it takes for me to read one long book. BUT, this is why I am forcing myself to take the time and finish this classic this year!
- Read at least one of the Song of Ice and Fire books: I've read A Game of Thrones and really liked it and I want to read the rest of the series, bu these books suffer from the fact that they are so long, just like the above title. So basically I need to read A Clash of Kings this year!
- Keep up with my plan to read about one non-fiction book a month: I have it planned out what books I'm reading when and so I hope this will keep me accountable. This list of non-fiction books is separate from anything else that I may read for book clubs and whatnot. Basically, I may be reading more than one non-fiction a month, but for sure AT LEAST one non-fiction a month! Coming up in February, I'm to read The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang.
- Keep up with my ARC (advanced reader copy) requests that I make through Netgalley or Edelweiss as well as any real print copies I've received from conferences and such. Sometimes I request books that I'm not as into, so I'm going to really try to only read the ones that I am genuinely interested in. This year, I've already read three and have enjoyed them all! Up next in my ARCs is Piece of Mind by Michelle Adelman.
- Continue with my "year (ahem now yearZ) of finishing series" beginning with finishing the Chicago Stars series (only 1 left), then The Mortal Instruments (5 left), Anna and the French Kiss, Domestic Gods...and we'll see where that takes me.
- Read around 10 books from my "need/want to soon" bookshelf on Goodreads, because these are the books I want to read really badly!
- And lastly, read my book club books. I am in 4 book clubs (yeah, I know-it's a lot) and so that means about 4 books each month. Here's hoping for some "easier" reads :)
Can I still do a post about what I want to read in 2016 when it's already 1/12 of the way through the year? Yes, I can. Because I said I can. Anywho, below are my main reading goals for the year!

Because we are already a couple weeks into 2016, I wanted to get this post up soon, so it may be slightly bare-bones. Plus, a number of these books I already wrote reviews for on the blog, so I will just link to those below.
These favorites are in no particular order:
While I was on "break" or what felt like break-just like high school and college, I listened to a lot more music than I normally get to. One reason was because I finally gave in to Spotify and ordered that so I had a brand new playlist to listen to that I curated before I left for home and also while home I was driving in a car and was able to listen to a lot of country music :) Oh, how I love music! A song that I had not heard at all before I got into the car and drove around town and the state of Iowa was "Stay A Little Longer" by Brothers Osborne, which I am now OBSESSED with. Love this song! Yes, it's on that vain of "not super country", but I don't care because I love all of that stuff too. I really like the lead vocals on the song as well. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future. The next country song that I am pretty obsessed with, slightly less so now because I had already listened to it a lot even before I got home and heard it on the radio a bunch, is "Home Along Tonight" by Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild (from Little Big Town). It has great harmonies, it's a fun, sexy song and when I listened to Luke's new CD a couple of months back, this was one that stood out to me. So we all know country rocks (or at least I do), but I bet something we didn't see coming (or at least I didn't) was HOW MUCH I AM IN LOVE WITH JUSTIN BIEBER'S SONGS RIGHT NOW. Yeah, it's nuts, right? But every one of them that have come out on the radio in the past year, I've loved. A couple of the songs have been Zumba songs and we all know how I feel about the Zumba songs that my instructor picks ;) Below are two of my favorites of his latest ones, "What Do You Mean" and "Love Yourself". In no particular order... Savannah: Technically I've been here, but it was only for about 3 hours which isn't enough, so I would like to go back. Atlanta: For the most part, I never really wanted to go there to visit until I had two different friends who visited recently and told me that they loved it, so I decided to add it to my list-why not? Also more Civil Rights history :) Milwaukee: Not sure why, but I do want to go here, Yet another contender for "places I may try and live someday". Kansas City: UPDATE: I visited here in October, and you can read my post here. I hear more and more great things about KC and how it's an up and coming fun city. Plus, I'd like to check it out to see if it's a place I could possibly move to someday that would be within driving distance of home. Toronto: UPDATE: I just visited here in November 2016 and you can see my post here. Ok, so it's not a U.S. city, but it's still a place I might like to visit someday. Louisville: I've been hearing so many good things about Louisville, and many bars/restaurants there seem to be making lists that I've seen so I'm very intrigued about visiting. Miami: Sun and fun. This would be a great city to go to for a weekend of just relaxing, eating and drinking Portland, OR: There's too many Portlands out there so i needed to clarify that I'm talking about the Oregon one. It's possible I may have already been here on a family trip to the Pacific NW when I was like 8 or 9, but does that really count? Especially if I'm not even sure if I have been here? Definitely want check out this great West Coast city as an adult. Richmond: Another random one that I put on recently because of the 36 hours article on this city. Seriously, check out this column-it's great! UPDATE: I have now visited Richmond, for my post click here. Detroit: Perhaps it's because I spent a year in Pittsburgh, a city that always gets a bad rap, but I'm interested in finding the good in Detroit-and I have a friend who visits there a bit and she would be able to show me the great spots! Charleston: Another southern city that has the reputation for being a beautiful and wonderful place, so I have to check it out! Plus, I've only driven through South Carolina and need to remedy that :) Memphis: BBQ, Blues, and more. You'll notice quite a few of these cities are in the South, which I really love.
Birmingham: I have enjoyed my previous trips down to Alabama to Selma and Montgomery and the history of the Civil Rights Movement interests me, so I believe it's necessary to visit Birmingham as well. Santa Fe: I've only driven through New Mexico, so I think it's time to visit the state for real. Santa Fe sounds like a really cool place with the architecture and culture and whatnot. Plus, a lot of great side-trips too! |
