D Coal Pot is a very tiny place - mostly takeaway, but luckily it wasn't busy and there were two high-top chairs for us to sit and enjoy our meals. The staff were friendly and one of them was SO helpful to us in figuring out what we wanted to eat and he let us try a number of the different meats they had. I ended up getting the curry chicken (Trinidadian food has various influences, the strongest being Caribbean and Indian) with roti (a soft tortilla-like food that you can use to eat your food), squash, potatoes, and beans (I think). I also ordered a drink that is reminiscent of Mexican horchata - very good. If I heard him correctly and my research is correct, I believe it was a chilled drink made from mauby bark - although many recipes for it mention anise, this one was much more sweet and on the cinnamon side. Or it may have been this (but I don't remember the peanuts).
As you can tell it was a very hearty meal, but delicious. If you are ever in the area or are just interested in trying some authentic Trinidadian food, check out D Coal Pot.
