1. A Popular Book or series that you didn't like.
This one I had way too many answers apparently, but my top ones are:
Beautiful Disaster: really horrible, I thought. Instead of going on about it, read my rant on Goodreads here.
Iron King: I'm usually a fan of YA Fantasy or SF, but this was poorly written, the humor wasn't working for me, and the world wasn't interesting enough. I may just not like faeries to be honest.
Life of Pi: I will put a disclaimer on this one and say that I listened to it on audio and sometimes I get distracted easily with audio. But truthfully, if a book is interesting enough, I won't. And this one was boring.
2. A Popular Book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love.
Ok, so this one was hard because I don't tend to read books that the majority of people hate (who does?), but I will say that my answer for this would be Fifty Shades of Grey. I did really enjoy it at the time that I read it about 3 1/2 years ago. Granted, my tastes have changed quite a bit, so I don't know what I would think now, but I'll stick with this one, because at the time I loved the series and I devoured them.
3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don't like.
So not necessarily ended up with someone I did not want them to end up with, but the ending of the Delirium series was a non-ending and that pissed me and a lot of others off.
4. A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.
Short Stories and Poetry, Urban Fiction. Short stories I'm willing to try more of; Poetry-maybe someday; and Urban Fiction-likely to not enjoy anything, but to be a good librarian, I will try one more book someday.
5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.
Holden Caulfield. UGH. Read my review of Catcher in the Rye here. He is still my standard for how I view other characters (i.e. even though a certain character was deplorable and made me angry, they still don't beat out Holden Caulfield).
6. A popular author that you can't seem to get into.
Rick Riordan: I'll try one more, but at this point in my life I think I'm too old to enjoy the novels.
Ernest Hemingway: Apparently he's one of the best American writers, but I don't see it. I just read The Sun Also Rises and I'm positive if it was written today, it would be considered trash.
7. A popular book trope that you're tired of seeing. (examples "lost princess", corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)
Not sure if it's a trope, but INSTALOVE. I read a lot of romances and I think a slow-burn is great. Lots of sexual tension, but no need to profess that you are in love within the first day of meeting the person.
8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.
No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency: I read the first and although I didn't hate it, I don't have much interest in continuing it.
Sue Grafton: really didn't like Kinsey Milhone in the series and it was just boring. I tried until E, but have no plans to go any further.
9. The saying goes "The book is always better than the movie", but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
I'm going to answer this questions two ways: 1) What do I think are some of the best book-movie adaptations out there, and 2) answer the actual question :)
1) For best book adaptations: The Hunger Games (the whole set of the movies so far, each one has been outstanding!) and Perks of Being a Wallflower-both the movie and book are exceptional and some of my favorites.
2) The Gossip Girl book series was really not that great, but I freaking loved the TV series. I miss me some Chuck and Blair real bad. Also, I miss Chace Crawford -hence why I am going to try out his new series on ABC, "Blood and Oil".
That's all folks! Check out these titles, if you dare...
