I first encountered El Pelon (which has two locations) when I used to live in Brighton on the B Line. My roommates were in search of great burritos that would hold up to their standards (they went to school in San Diego). After some searching (there aren't many legitimate options), they finally found El Pelon at the clear end of the B line at the Boston College stop. They told me the next time they go, that I needed to tag along and try this El Guapo burrito which has all the regular fixings in it, but the ingredient that makes this a true winner, is the addition of fried plantains to the burrito. AMAZING! My regular now is the El Guapo w/ chicken instead of the regular steak and add guacamole. Did I mention that it's also a freaking, massive burrito? Just look at the picture above! Easily two meals, although I can't always help myself from eating the whole thing at once :)
Sadly, I moved away from Brighton and I thought I might never get El Pelon again, or at least VERY, VERY rarely. But then I found out that they have another location in the Fenway area! Just down the street from the ballpark :) Much closer to work and what was really great was that I played volleyball right by there too for multiple seasons. I was able to fill up my burrito card pretty easily. By now, you are asking yourselves what is the other menu item you can tell us about, you said there were two? The other item is one I only really get in the non-winter months here because it's perfect for warm days, and that is their horchata. I had never had horchata in my life until El Pelon, and now I compare every horchata to theirs. It's delicious, just like I'm sure everything else is here too. The burrito should bring you to El Pelon, but hopefully that and other menu items will entice you to come back!
