First, about the book that you absolutely should read. Like I said, it's set in the 1970's and starts with a band called The Six headed by a leader singer named Billy. The Six is starting to make it pretty big with their first album when they do a collaboration with the hottest new female artist out there: Daisy Jones. The fans LOVE this song they did together, and eventually they decide to have her join the band. Much of the book is about making a certain album and the writing process of the songs, but of course it's a lot about drugs and relationships as well. It was perfectly drama-filled; emotional, yet fun. I was so sad at the end that I couldn't hear what these songs sounded like. Apparently there will someday be a TV adaptation with original songs, so that should be pretty freaking amazing whenever it happens. I'm here for it. Since you can't hear the music that Daisy Jones and the Six (or really TJR wrote), then you can do the next best thing and listen to the soundtrack that accompanies this book which is full of songs by, you guessed it, Fleetwood Mac (among many other 70's bands and some current songs too). It's a great soundtrack and can be found on Spotify.
After I started listening to the playlist, I realized first that I had only ever heard "Go Your Own Way" and "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac and *maybe* heard "Rhiannon" once. Then I realized that the 1970's had some pretty awesome songs, and that just like most people who hear Stevie Nick's voice, there is just something addicting about it. Not only did I listen to the songs by them on the Daisy Jones soundtrack, but I also listened to the Super Deluxe Rumours album. Then I watched the live performance of their reunion where Stevie sings "Silver Springs" AT Lindsey Buckingham and it's so great. It made me officially love that song, and it's my favorite that I've discovered on my deep dive of Fleetwood Mac.
Other notable mentions on the soundtrack that I either had never heard before or had heard but came to love even more are:
- "I'm On Fire" by Bruce Springsteen
- "Because the Night" by Patti Smith
- "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits - this is probably my favorite! Had never heard it before.
- "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac - I know I already mentioned it, but I really do like it.
Moral of this whole post is that I loved Daisy Jones and the Six and I highly recommend it, and I love it even more because it introduced me to new (old) music :)
