My sport has always been volleyball. I'm not the most athletic person but volleyball I loved deeply, played hard, and was actually pretty good at. I hadn't really played since high school besides a few times here and there at the YMCA with my dad during summer breaks during college. When I moved to Boston, I i immediately thought volleyball would be a great way to meet people. So I looked for places to place or leagues but everything cost money. Money which I did not have because I was unemployed or the first month or so I was here, so it wasn't really an option and it got put on the backburner.
Fast forward two years later and it was winter, the perfect less-busy time to join a league. I joined a Social Boston Sports Indoor Volleyball novice league as a free agent (meaning no premade team). I joined a team of more free agents and...we weren't that great. We certainly got much better over the courrse of the league (about 7 weeks, but more with all that crazy snow), but we were still the worst in the league. A few of us decided we sould try again with the league coming up right after ours ended, and so I thought why not? I didn't want to stop playing and I liked my teammates, so we signed up and joined with another half of a team who had played with each other as well.
The first nigh took a little bit to get used to each other, but it was very apparent quickly that we were actually good and could legit win this time around! I don't remember our total record, but I think we only lost about 5-6 games this season out of 28. Compared to last season, where we won maybe 5 games (I'm not even sure we won that many), this was SO awesome! As you can tell by that record, and the raeson I'm writing this post is that we won the finals/championship on Monday!!! It was so awesome! Afterwards we got to take the trophy to the sponsor bar and SBS fills it up with beer and everyone drinks from it. It's ridiculous and cheesy, but oh it felt so victorious! We had a blast partying it up and celebrating with the refs and the other teams! Yes, it was a Monday night but who cared :) Below are a few pics from our win.
Onto our beach volleyball league come the end of May! A little more worried about this because sand is definitely different, but it should still be a blast!
