Timeless is a time travel drama that begins with a criminal named Garcia Flynn breaking into a lab and stealing the brand-new time machine, where he jets off to...the Hindenburg Disaster. Why does he need the time machine and why did he go back to this event in history? Well, that is for Lucy (history professor and apparently all-knowing of history), Wyatt (a soldier), and Rufus (pilot of time machine) a ragtag (really random) group to find out. They are sent right after Flynn in the older, first version of this Time Machine. This same scenario happens just about every episode except for we see a different time in history - Lincoln's assassination, the Alamo, and Watergate - just to name a few, and we still don't know what Flynn is really after and why he chooses to travel to where he does. Plus, there is this mysterious organization called Rittenhouse that is threatening both in the past and in the present, and that's another sneaky thing to follow.
I really like the team of Lucy, Wyatt (who is very easy on the eyes), and Rufus and their newly-found friendship, as well as I just love the HISTORY. So much fun to see famous points in history come to life week after week. This show is in that spot of - it could be renewed for another season, or it could not be, and boy oh boy do I hope it gets renewed. I am loving it and can't get enough! Highly recommended.
This is Us is a show that I might spoil just slightly if I tell you about. So if you don't want the first episode and the surprise spoiled, don't read further and just try out the first episode yourself. Ok, now if you are willing to have the first episode spoiled: This is Us seems like it is about 3 random people sharing the same birthday (one is an actor, the other is a severely overweight woman trying to resist birthday cake, and the third is a black man who just found his birth father) and another story about a young man and woman about to give birth to triplets on this same day. As things go on and we learn a bit more about the people, we find out that the actor and woman are siblings - twins. The couple who had triplets lost one sadly, but then fate led them to the nursery where there was a black baby a firefighter brought in because he was left at their doorstep. Things zoom out and you realize that the couple is actually living in the late 70's/early 80's and that all 3 of the people in the present-day: Kate, Kevin, and Randall are siblings and the couple are their parents. This Is Us.
This show is so emotional and heartwarming and has made me tear up/full-on cry, and smile with sweetness so many times! Each episode usually has part of it set in the past with the Pearson family, and then parts set in the present - often it is tied together somehow. It's just such a lovely show and I am already super attached to the most of the characters, especially Jack, the father, young Randall, and William (Randall's biological father). The mid-season finale had a pretty shocking and heartbreaking ending, and it is exactly why I love this show, and why so many people are in love with the Pearsons - because they make you feel! Considering how much I seem to love shows that make me cry, like Grey's Anatomy, this show is perfect for me!
Check them both out!
