The story is all about Erin, her friends Clare and Michelle, and her cousin Orla as they navigate being teenagers in Derry, Northern Ireland. Michelle's cousin James, from England, is also part of the group mostly because he doesn't know a soul and he even attends the all-girl's Catholic school with them as well. Each of the girls has their own shtick that makes them funny or entertaining, but I really think adding in James, who they mostly just make fun of, really adds the extra element to make this show a barrel full-of-laughs. The best character though is Sister Michael - the head nun of the school - she is absolutely hysterical!
The first season (series) is only 7 episodes that are 30 minutes each, so it's quick to watch on Netflix. Though it is definitely a comedy, the way the first series ends is on a more serious note as it is during a time of turmoil in Northern Ireland. My feeling is that the series will continue to be comedic, but also involve the details of what it's like growing up during this time. I look forward to laughing more, but also learning a bit more about the Troubles from this great show!
Overall, I'd obviously highly recommend checking it out if you have Netflix!
