The entire week of the concert I was so excited and couldn't stop telling everyone that I knew that I was going to the concert that Friday. I was constantly listening to his songs, and I think I even told my best friend that "I may cry tears of joy on Friday". So obviously I had some expectations about the show, and all I can say is that it was everything I could have hoped for! It sounds lame to actually utter those words "it's everything I could have hoped for", but that is exactly how I feel. Garth is crazy and awesome. So crazy and awesome that he was doing 6 shows within 4 days in Boston. The way to do that is by playing a show on Friday night (promptly) at 7:00 and then ANOTHER show at 10:30 pm. We attended the 7:00 concert, and I'm so glad we did because instead of having to deal with an opening act and waiting hours for the main event to happen, we got to start immediately at 7pm and rock out for the next 2 1/2 hours with Garth! I have so much respect for that man, because he put on SUCH a great show with an intense energy and love for the crowd and I can only assume that he had for the 10:30 show, as well as every other show he performed that weekend. Garth gives these concerts his all, and in return the audience gives him their all right back. My favorite part about concerts, without fail, is when an entire stadium/arena of people can see the entire words to a song. There is a such a sense of community and camaraderie when this happens, it gives me chills. This experience happened with almost every single song, and the audience AND Garth loved it each time.
Now, some of you who know a little about Garth's World Tour might say that I'm forgetting mentioning someone in this "review" of the concert. But I assure you that I am not. Joining Garth on the stage in the middle of the concert on Friday was none other than his wife and amazing country singer, Trisha Yearwood! Listening to her sing some of my favorite songs from the 90's country scene made my heart happy :) One of my favorite country songs is "She's In Love With The Boy" by Trisha, and it was so much fun to hear it!
- Surprisingly, a song that I really enjoyed seeing live isn't normally one of my absolute favorites of his: "Ain't Goin' Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)". But the reason this was so much fun to see live was the INSANE energy that Garth, who is in his 50's by now, had. He was literally running up and down the stage and climbing on some of the set and it was just FUN.
- There are some excellent slow songs that Garth performed, and one of those was "Unanswered Prayers". This song was an example of a song that everyone in the crowd was singing and I believe it was either this or "The River" that everyone got our the cellphones and flashlight apps and lit up the place. Above, you'll find a picture that I tried to take to capture that moment!
- Another surprise song that was really fun to hear was one of his newest, "People Loving People". It just has such a great message, and he is really passionate about that message.
- "Shameless" was another song that I didn't know I loved so much until I heard it live.
- The song that wasn't a surprise that made me want to weep tears of happiness, was one of my favorite feel-good songs (and also Garth's favorite song to perform), "Callin' Baton Rouge".
- Do I even have to say that "Friends in Low Places" was a freaking blast to hear and sing to? Nope, I don't. Below is the video for evidence. I apologize for it's blurriness and unsteadiness (we were wayyyy far back and I was dancing, of course). *Oh snap, I don't think it's letting the video through :( Standby, and I hope to figure it out!
- Lastly, another favorite of mine that just makes me very happy and was a perfect last encore was "Standing Outside the Fire".
Overall, it's no question that this was a concert to put in the books as one of the best concerts I've attended. Garth, you did not disappoint.
